General Carpentry
We do general carpentry, and we would love to build to build things. Using quality material and craftsmanship, our carpenters are always ready to build free standing structures such as garages and custom sheds, along with attached structures like porches, additions and decks.
We do a wide variety of framing construction, general carpentry and finish carpentry. Our expertise includes installing windows and doors. We can repair your deck or build you a new one. Below is an overview of what we can do for you.
Decks
Do you need a custom deck? We design and build just what you want. With the new composite decking and PVC railings your deck will be maintenance free for many years to come. We use only the best materials from the local lumber yard so you get the longest lasting products.
The new pressure treated wood can last double the lifespan of former products. You’ll also want to check out the highest quality composite decking available today. There’s a big difference in stain resistance from composite products.
When it comes to deck railing there are many choices and the one I like the least is real wood. After 10 years wood rails usually look beat. Cracked and warped railing boards seem to standout more than on the deck floor. I recommend PVC as a good solution because it’s strong and impervious to the elements.
Framing
We only use KD lumber to frame whatever area you’re trying to finish. What this means to you is straighter boards and so the finished job is going to better. For exterior construction we use “ground contact pressure treated”, which you may see occasionally at the home center, but that’s all we use.
Any new structure will require a permit and codes department will check the required plan. We’ll draw up the plan and submit it for approval. By building according to best practices and codes you’ll get a structure that will last for years to come. I’ve seen decks collapsing after only 10 years when the frame can be good for 50 years if done carefully. We build it right so it will last.
Finish Carpentry
Sometimes we replace baseboards and door and window casings, most often to replace the builder grade materials from the original construction. We can put up crown molding in whatever room you desire, and wainscoting for that custom look.
Installing Doors
Yes, I like replacing interior doors because with a little extra effort it looks so nice when you’re done. Often a door gets damaged, sometimes people get trapped in a room and they break the door to get them out. It happens. I always put on new hinges, but a new lock set is up to you.
Exterior doors need replacing to keep the cold out in winter or to freshen up look or otherwise improve the function. We have taken out windows and put exterior French doors in their place.
Wood Replacement Windows
When it comes to windows I can replace just a couple windows with vinyl windows if that’s what’s needed. You determine how many you want. But if you want to replace all your windows, we can do that too, with vinyl or wood. A favorite of mine is Anderson Woodwright windows because they are wood like your original windows and they’re of excellent quality See an online brochure of Anderson Woodwright. I’ve had many happy customers who have chosen that particular product for their whole house.
Additions, Garages or Sheds
We can also build you an addition to extend your living space, maybe for your kitchen remodel project or a rec room. It could double the cost of a kitchen remodel, but that maybe it’s the right move. We do wood frame additions, with standards roofing, and use a variety of sidings.
We build custom garages and sheds to your specifications. Using traditional wood construction techniques allows us to accommodate any design. Strong and durable, we customize each build to specifications, and it’s surprisingly affordable too. A custom shed will not increase your taxes and a garage will help you add value to your home.
